Structural Engineering-CIVL 310

Structural student class objective is to analyse determinate and indeterminate structures. The Structural Engineering lab covers modeling structures by using RISA-3D software. RISA allow students to rapidly analyze all type of structures including buildings, bridges, thanks, colvert, and so on.

Course

Elementary Surveying-CIVL 210

Introductory course in surveying methods and theory.

Course

Engineering Materials- ENGR 220

One sections of Engineering Materials(about 60 students). Designed as asynchronous course with individual project with the scope of teaching conventional engineering materials and manufacturing process. Students assigned to perform research on emerging engineering materials.

Course and Lab

Fluid Mechanics, and Fluid Mechanics Lab- CIVILENG 3300

Two sections of Fluid Mechanics (about 80 students) and four sessions of Fluid Mechanics lab (CIVILENG 3300, CIVILENG 3300L).

Develope the lab procedure and curriculum for the class to be aligned with ABET evaluation.

Design hands-on experience and Fluid Mechanics project to offer the students a better understanding of this fundamental engineering courses and its lab as well as foster collaboration through teamwork.

Course

Engineering Mechanics-Statics GENENG 2130

Engineering Mechanics-Statics (GENENG 2130) is one of my favorite courses that I have 32 students in my class.

I am practicing active learning in this course with a modification of my lecture to give my students more opportunities to actively collaborate in the learning process. Additionally, they have hands-on experiments and final projects to bring the concept to their daily life. One of my statics students mentioned the impact of these hands-on experience in their feedback; “I learned a lot because of the teaching method and ways of learning. Although the content was heavy, the pacing and emphasis on subjects stood out as I prioritized these topics. Working with students in class and out of class helped my understanding”

Course

Senior Design CIVILENG 4930

I have been an adviser for five groups of students (11 students) in the structural projects and civil projects for Senior Design (CIVILENG 4930).

Senior Design Group 1: The project determined the location, dimensions, and fixtures for the splash pad and playground equipment. Additionally, it served to define pipe size and routes while determining the applicability of potential flow systems such as sewer lift, closed recycling, or stormwater discharge for water treatment and disposal. Aqua-Rec Designers would also review the applicability of grants provided by the client regarding potential funding sources for the project (Fall 2018).

Senior Design Group 2: There is currently an existing Varco Pruden metal storage building located in Appleton, Wisconsin. The owners of this building require additional space and have requested that an addition to the building be made. For the addition to be completed, modifications to the existing structure must be made (Fall 2018).

Senior Design Group 3:  Rolling Hills Church of Platteville, Wisconsin requires a larger area for worship. This project included designing optimal placement for structures and supporting elements, design solutions for building, parking lot, and stormwater structures (Spring 2018).

Senior Design Group 4: Sanders Creek in Boscobel, WI has historic flooding events over the last couple of years. This project objective was to determine alternatives to Highway 61 culvert and downstream channels to prevent overflowing river on top of Highway 61(Spring 2018).

Senior Design Group 5: The City of Dodgeville has required several alternatives for designing a splash pad with concrete slab including specific design, layout, location, materials list, part list, maintenance/staffing plan, cost estimation and renderings of the final product. Additionally, the group will investigate the feasibility of each alternative to provide a technical report to the City of Dodgeville, Wisconsin (Fall 2019).

Undergraduate Research CIVILENG 4940

Adviser for the Undergraduate Research Course (CIVILENG 4940). I formed an undergraduate research team with six multidisciplinary students to work on mechanical properties of nanocomposites incorporating carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers graphene, and synthetic fibers. The research team includes three juniors in Civil and Environmental Engineering and three sophomores in Industrial, Electrical and Civil Engineering. I have advised them in research since fall 2018. In my research team, I promote the women’s participation as half of my team are female with significant contributions in lab work, technical writing (international conference), and poster presentation (university-level).

Course

Independent Study CIVILENG 4990

Offered an Independent Study (CIVILENG 4990)for the fluid mechanics lab (Fall 2019).
